Andrea Diaz is a mom of two and public defender living and working in Los Angeles County, CA. Everything you see here is created mostly while her kids nap, while waiting for cases to be called in court, or on lunch breaks. She created JURY TRIAL ABC and The Coloring Book! after she was unable to find anything like them for her own children. You can find her on instagram and TikTok @afternoon_recess.

Will my older child enjoy this JURY TRIAL ABC and The JURY TRIAL ABC Coloring Book?

Absolutely. Jury Trial ABC will grow with your child. There is a glossary at the end of the book for curious children who want to learn more about some of the bigger words and advanced vocabulary in the book. Older children will appreciate the humor in the illustrations and will be able to use this book to learn more about what lawyers do.

Will these books prepare me for the bar exam?

No, but it does contain a succinct and memorable definition of “hearsay.”

Would my lawyer friend with kids (or expecting!) like JURY TRIAL ABC and The JURY TRIAL ABC Coloring Book?

Yes. Guaranteed. This book came about while the author was on maternity leave because she could not find a fun, accurate, and engaging book about her work for her own children. Most other children’s books about lawyers are written for the parents - not the children. Jury Trial ABC is different. It rhymes, it has simple and bright illustrations, and it is written by an actual lawyer!

I found a children’s book on Amazon for $7.99 - why is yours so much more expensive?

Jury Trial ABC was hand-drawn and written by Andrea Diaz. This entire operation is run primarily by her with help from her husband. Unfortunately, she does not have the resources of a big publisher including ordering tens of thousands of books at once to keep costs down.

Additionally, she has spent the last three and a half years working on JURY TRIAL ABC. The book’s pricing reflects the time she has spent creating the book and the time she will spend fulfilling each individual order.

JURY TRIAL ABC is a hardcover book, sized 8.5” x 5.5”, and printed with soy-based ink (which is more expensive and better for the environment). It has also been safety tested by an independent laboratory. JURY TRIAL ABC is of a quality that can be passed down for generations.

What is your return policy?

Returns will be accepted for books that are damaged or defective. Products damaged during shipping will be replaced. Contact afternoonrecessart@gmail.com for help. Whatever the issue, I will make it right!
